Outlander's Sam Heughan would love to land Lord of the Rings role

Outlander star Sam Heughan has revealed that he would love to star in the new Amazon series Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power.

He's best known for playing Highlander Jamie Fraser in the hit show, and now he says he loves the fantasy genre so much that he would really love to land a role in the new Lord of The Rings series.

The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power is an Amazon Prime Video produced prequel series to the famous novels. The show is set thousands of years before the events of JRR Tolkien’s The Hobbit, with a cast of new and old characters facing a rising threat from a long-feared enemy.

It was created by Patrick McKay and John D. Payne and it stars Morfydd Clark, Lenny Henry and Peter Mullan, but the Outlander actor says he would love to be cast too.

In a recent interview with Holly Newson for Audible, Sam said he really would jump at the chance to be cast in the show. He said: “I’m still desperate to be an elf or a dwarf. So if The Rings of Power are still casting, I’m available! I’ve even got a ginger wig if they’re interested.”

Holly then said she could imagine the 42-year-old as an elf. He laughed: “Thank you. Well, I may have had some prosthetics done at some point. You might see in the future, It was a lot of fun.”

This isn't the only role the Scots actor is desperate to land as he previously auditioned to be James Bond.

Sam admitted that he actually tried for the role in 2006 back when Daniel Craig was hired. Sam told the Sunday Times that he thinks the next film in the franchise will go “back to where it all began”, but he would love to throw his kilt in the ring.

“I think any British actor would. What would I bring? Scottish charm and a slight humour," he said.

Speaking on Alex Zane's podcast Just The Facts, Sam admitted it would be 'amazing' as he discussed the internet speculation and hype around him joining MI6 in the next Bond flick.

He told the podcast: "It's all media and it's all just... there's no weight to it at all, there's no truth to it. But having said that, you can't help but then think 'God, it would be amazing".

"I have been up for Bond, I went up when they did Bond 21.

"It was an amazing experience and I was completely out of my depth. But I think now I feel the right age for it, I feel capable enough to do it, I'd love the opportunity to throw my hat in the ring. Definitely."
