Outlander's Caitriona Balfe chooses actors she would cast for 'older' Claire and Jamie Fraser

Caitriona Balfe has revealed the names of the actors she would cast as the older versions of Claire and Jamie Fraser in Outlander.

Caitriona, who plays Claire Fraser to Sam Heughan's Jamie in the romantic time travelling series, appeared virtually at the global premiere for Outlander on Thursday night.

She was asked on screen by She Knows magazine who she would cast as an older version of the much-loved couple.

And the Irish actress, who is currently in award nominated Belfast with Jamie Dornan, came up with the perfect combo.

Caitriona revealed: "Ed Harris would a be a really good older Jamie so who would be his good Claire? Julie Walters, I adore her. She would be a good Claire."

After being congratulated on her choice of the peaky Blinders star and Harry Potter actress she added: "I'm going to add casting director to my bio next time."

Caitriona also paid tribute to Sam is saying 'he is such a gentle soul and creates such an easy environment wherever he goes and is kind to everyone.'

But she added: "I'm sure I annoy the hell out of him every so often but in general he allows me the space to be myself and may roll his eyes behind my back."

The star also touched on her pregnancy while filming and said 'shooting in the dead of winter in Scotland, pregnant, and running around pregnant wasn’t the easiest'.

It comes as Caitriona defended herself after being slammed for making only a virtual appearance at Outlander's world premiere party.

There was a red carpet extravaganza with the series’ stars, before a screening of the 90-minute first episode 'Echoes' and then a live panel with cast and producers, moderated by Edith Bowman.

The red carpet event was streamed live on the Outlander Starz Facebook page while the panel, for those not lucky enough to be there, will be made available on YouTube after the March 6 premiere.

After fans hit out at her for not physically attending she replied on Twitter: "To all those saying it’s shameful I’m not there in person, I understand you’re disappointed but I also ask for some understanding as a new mom.

"I'm trying to do the best I can and not being able to fly across the world like I used to is a change but we are adapting…."

She added: "I'll be there virtually for red carpet and panel and it’s not Outlander_STARZ‘s fault … We’re all trying to give you all the best experience we can in new and challenging circumstances."
