Outlander author Diana Gabldon left 'confused' after claims she wasn't hired for prequel

Outlander is one of the most popular TV shows at the moment with it being known around the world - not just here in the UK.

The show has been adapted from the books written by Diana Gabaldon with well-known faces playing the main characters such as Sam Heughan and Caitriona Balfe who play husband and wife, Jamie and Claire Fraser.

However ahead of news about it's prequel, Gabaldon has taken to social media after she has admitted to feeling left in the dark claiming 'nobody' has spoken to her about being a 'consulting producer' despite being named as one by Deadline, an article which she linked in her post.

The Outlander prequel, according to the Scottish Express, was announced earlier this month, with STARZ confirming that the series 'Blood of my Blood' will follow the love story of Jamie's parents, Ellen Mackenzie and Brian Fraser.

Taking to Facebook she wrote: "Well....THIS is interesting...Note that I have no idea what a "Consulting Producer" is, and no one has talked to me about being one. This doesn't mean that I won't be involved with the show, but I have no details at the moment.

Diana Gabaldon. took to Facebook to share her thoughts. (Facebook/Diana Gabaldon.)

"Yes, I _am_ writing Brian and Ellen's story. I have no idea what the timing of the show might be, or to what extent the show-runners plan to use the book (insofar as it exists by that point). "In development" is not the same thing as being green-lit; it just means they're starting to put together the pieces.

"I'm just mentioning it here because Starz announced it today on Twitter and Facebook, so figured everyone would be wanting to know about it."

In response to her post, fans of the books and television series were quick to jump to her defence, with many of them just as bewildered as her.

One said: "I’m wondering how they can start all this when you haven’t even finished the book. Seems a little horse before the cart to me. I’m sure it will all work out but it does seem kind of presumptuous."

Another added: "I look forward to reading Brian and Ellen’s story, written by you, Diana. The show is its best when they stick with the story and characters as they are written. I don’t expect a perfect copy of the books, but when changes feel out of character for the people we have gotten to know, it falls short."

"I was wondering how they planned to make this series knowing you were still writing the book. I really really hope they let you finish writing it rather than making their own version." wrote a third.
