Outer Banks star Chase Stokes says filming the hit Netflix show alongside ex-girlfriend Madelyn Cline isn’t even a bit awkward for either of them.
The 30-year-old TV star has featured on the action-adventure show since it debuted on the streaming service in April 2020 - as has his 25-year-old Glass Onion star ex, Madelyn.
Chase plays John B Routledge on the show - with Madelyn playing his on-screen girlfriend Sarah Cameron.
Romance blossomed for the pair off-screen with a relationship that ignited in June 2020 - but fizzled out by October 2021.
Outer Banks returns to screens later this month, with Sarah and John B’s romance continuing after Madelyn and Chase’s ended.
But, speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Chase explained that he and Madelyn are being processionals and have had no issues playing on-screen lovers while being real-life exes.
He explained: “Mads and I have been working together now for 30 episodes, and we made a promise to each other before we even started dating that the work was always going to come first.
“No matter what happens in our personal lives, and the ways that life sometimes takes you in different directions, that we’re always going to honor the work.”
And it seems those no-hard-feelings are fully reciprocated by Chase’s ex-girlfriend.
Madelyn said: “We had a working relationship before we had a personal relationship, and our job from day one has always been to leave the show better than we found it.
“I’m really, really happy and I’m very proud of the work this season, and I’m incredibly grateful for my costars and their professionalism and just how talented each and every one of them are.”
Madelyn recently appeared in the Netflix film Glass Onion: A Knives Out Story alongside Hollywood stars Kate Hudson and Daniel Criag.
Discussing the difference between working on the film and her Netflix show, Madelyn told The Hollywood Reporter: “Every production, every set, every project is different.
“When I’m shooting on Outer Banks, I do feel like I’m coming home a bit because I know everybody. I’m familiar. Going and doing another project is intimidating because I feel like a bit of a fish out of water.
“For me, I went on to Knives Out, and I felt a little bit awkward. I was like, ‘Oh, I haven’t done this in a few years.’ But it was still a joy, and it’s so much fun.
“I do love the feeling of being displaced a little bit and a little unaccounted for, and off doing something else here and then going over here; I love that kind of lifestyle. But both productions are wonderful, and I have had a blast on both, but I just don’t think you can compare them.”
Outer Banks season three stars streaming on Netflix on Friday 23 February 2023.
