Our Liverpool: Toxteth man 'sacrificed so much' for people of city

Hello and welcome to Our Liverpool.

In tragic news to report from this weekend, Toxteth photographer Leroy Cooper died aged 62, more than 40 years after his arrest during a disturbance triggered the Toxteth Riots. After spending time on remand, Leroy returned to his community inspired and would go on to dedicate his life to capturing Liverpool 8 in a way no one else could have.

Speaking following his death, at the Museum of Liverpool where his work is exhibited, his family spoke of the "massive impact" Leroy had on his immediate community "and far wider as well." They called him a "great inspiration to people in the Toxteth area."

His nephew Errol Smith said: "We also want to cement Leroy's legacy in the Liverpool area for a very long time. We want a permanent legacy for him. He has got artwork and hundreds of pieces of art, exhibitions, and installations that we would like to get cemented in and around Liverpool.

"He has offered so much to this city and sacrificed so much for it and for the people of this city. I think the people of this city would love to see his legacy live on."

Mum 'proud to be Scouse' after support following son's bullying

The mum of a boy victim to horrific bullying in a video shared online has said she is "proud to be Scouse" after an outpouring of support from Liverpool. In the video, the boy is used as a "punch bag" by a group of kids, one of which tells him "I'll stab your da in the neck you fat c***" in the video.

First of new hydrogen bus fleet to begin passenger services today

The first bus from Merseyside's new fleet of hydrogen-powered fleet will take passengers today after 20 of the vehicles were purchased. The buses will operate on what will become the region's first 'green route.'
