Oswego County has confirmed its first measles case in more than 25 years, and health officials say anyone who visited the Walmart at 341 State Route 104 in Oswego on Wednesday, Sept. 23, between 9 a.m. and noon may have been exposed. The patient is an unvaccinated adult who is recovering and no longer contagious, according to the Oswego County Health Department's release issued Oct. 1.
For local households, the key question is whether anyone in the family was in that store that morning. Symptoms can appear up to 21 days after exposure, so shoppers should watch for illness through Wednesday, Oct. 14. Because the incubation period is usually seven to 14 days, symptoms would most likely start between about Sept. 30 and Oct. 7, a window that has already begun.
