The 95th Academy Awards are this Sunday, March 12, meaning we will very soon have all the answers as to which films, actors, directors and production staffs will earn accolades for their work in 2023.
When the nominees for Best Picture were announced back in late January, DraftKings posted odds as to which picture would take home the coveted gold statuette. Now that we’ve been through a lot of awards season and seen how the Golden Globes, BAFTA and SAG awards were handed out, the odds have shifted.
Let’s take a look at where the Best Picture odds stand now. All odds courtesy of DraftKings.
Triangle of Sadness, Women Talking (+15000)
Triangle of Sadness has stayed in the long-shot category since it surprised folks by earning a Best Picture nominee nod. The dark satire was originally partnered with the biopic Elvis, but has since traded with the Rooney Mara and Claire Foy led drama.
Avatar: The Way of Water (+10000)
The lone movie not available to stream or rent, James Cameron’s sequel is now the third-highest grossing film of all time with $2.269 billion at the box office. Billion with a B.
Tár (+5000)
Cate Blanchett is a force in Tár, a heavy drama that centers around controversial maestro Lydia Tár. While Blanchett (-105) is a close second to Michelle Yeoh (-135) to win Best Actress — she’s already won a BAFTA, Critics Choice, and Golden Globe award (among others) for the role — it’s unlikely this wins Best Picture.
Elvis (+4000)
Baz Luhrmann’s biopic on the King of Rock and Roll has made a big jump since nominees were announced, moving from longest odds at +10000 to a respectable +4000. Like Tár, it’s much more likely that Austin Butler (+135) wins for his role as the titular Elvis Presley than this gets Best Picture.
The Fabelmans (+3000)
Steven Spielberg’s semi-autobiographical flick has fallen to fifth-best odds, and has slipped from +1100 to +3000.
Top Gun: Maverick (+1600)
Like The Fabelmans, Top Gun: Maverick also slipped slightly, falling from +1000 odds to +1600. Tom Cruise still owns the box office, though, and “saved Hollywood’s butt” (according to Steven Spielberg, that is).
Banshees of Inisherin (+1400)
Brendan Gleeson might hate Colin Farrell in this movie, but we do not hate Banshees of Inisherin.
All Quiet on the Western Front (+1000)
The Netflix movie has made the biggest jump over the last month, moving from +3500 odds and fifth-best in the standings to +1000 and second place.
Everything Everywhere All At Once (-1200)
No, that’s not a typo. The eclectic Everything Everywhere All At Once is the heavy favorite to take home the Best Picture award, and it likely will not be the only one it wins.
