The Oscars 2023 returned to our screens on Sunday night, celebrating the very best talent in film, design and sound.
Everything Everywhere All at Once were the big winners at the Academy Awards this year, scooping six major trophies. Stars, directors, producers and a whole host of celebrities headed to the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles for the special event, which is celebrating its 95th edition.
Comedian and TV host Jimmy Kimmel took on presenting duties for the evening, with the likes of Florence Pugh, Pedro Pascal and Andrew Garfield among the award presenters - with Will Smith's infamous antics from last year referenced throughout the entire evening.
Everything Everywhere All At Once was the big winner throughout the night, collecting the coveted Best Picture Oscar amongst others, with Brendan Fraser bagging his first honour from the Academy for his role in The Whale, reports the Mirror.
Lady Gaga and Rihanna both missed out on an Oscar, as 'Naatu Naatu' from 'RRR' won the award for Best Original Song and beat the two pop icons and their fellow nominees in the category. Michelle Yeoh was emotional as she picked up the Oscar for Best Actress for her performance in Everything Everywhere All at Once.
She was up against tough competition with Cate Blanchett in Tár, Ana De Armas in Blonde, Andrea Riseborough in To Leslie and Michelle Williams in The Fabelmans. Yeoh gave an inspirational speech after becoming the first Asian to win best actress.
Fraser was moved to tears as he took to the stage to collect his award for Best Actor, after previously being blacklisted from Hollywood due to speaking out about sexual assault. “So this is what the multiverse looks like,” he said, accepting the award.
“I thank the academy for this honour…Darren Aronofsky for throwing me a creative lifeline and hauling me aboard the good ship The Whale." Addressing his fellow best actor nominees, he continued: “You laid your whale-sized hearts bare…and it is my honour to be named alongside you in this category.”
Legendary actress Jamie Lee Curtis paid tribute to her famous parents as she won her first Academy Award on Sunday night, giving a shout out to all the special people in her life as she yelled: "We just won an Oscar!"
