Oscar winner reveals what she was going to say before speech was abruptly cut

  • K-Pop singer EJAE, real name Kim Eun-jae, made history when the song "Golden" from the film KPop Demon Hunters won Best Original Song at the Academy Awards.
  • "Golden" is the first K-Pop track to receive this award in the ceremony's 96-year history, having become a global hit after the Netflix film's release.
  • During her acceptance speech, Eun-jae became emotional, expressing pride in K-Pop and highlighting the song's message of resilience, but her speech was abruptly cut off by organisers.
  • Eun-jae later revealed backstage that she and her co-writers, including Yu Han Lee and Mark Sonnenblick, had intended to thank the directors, animators, and other singers involved, as well as their families.
  • The Netflix film KPop Demon Hunters, which features the winning song, also secured the award for Best Animated Feature at the ceremony.
