Oscar-nominated actress dies aged 82 as friends pay tribute

  • Oscar-nominated actor Valerie Perrine, best known for her roles in the films Lenny and superman">Superman, has died at the age of 82.
  • Her death was announced by Stacey Souther, director of the 2022 documentary Valerie, which explored Perrine's career and her resilience after being diagnosed with Parkinson's disease in 2015.
  • Perrine began her career as a showgirl in Las Vegas before gaining prominence in Hollywood.
  • She earned an Oscar nomination, a Golden Globe nomination, and won Best Actress at the Cannes Film Festival for her performance as Honey Bruce in the 1974 biopic Lenny.
  • Perrine narrowly avoided being present at Sharon Tate's home during the 1969 Manson Family murders, where her then-boyfriend Jay Sebring was killed.
