Oregon’s Dan Lanning blasted Colorado in pregame speech: ‘They’re fighting for clicks, we’re fighting for wins’

Oregon head football coach Dan Lanning brought the heat for his Ducks ahead of the team’s anticipated Saturday bout with Colorado.

While the Buffaloes have been the story of the college football season so far, Oregon is ranked No. 10 compared to Colorado’s 19 and has a Heisman contender on the roster in quarterback Bo Nix.

To fire his guys up before the day’s big game in Eugene, Lanning blasted Colorado as nothing but hype and said that it’d be the Ducks who would set the tone on the field.

Some of Lanning’s barbs at the Buffaloes included:

“[Oregon is] rooted in substance, not flash… Today, we talk with our pads.”

“The Cinderella story is over, men. Right? They’re fighting for clicks, we’re fighting for wins. There’s a difference.”

“This game ain’t going to be played in Hollywood. It’s going to be played on the grass.”

Ouch. Colorado head coach Deion Sanders has become famous for his very methodical theatrics to fire up his team, and it looks like Lanning wasn’t afraid to get in on the moment, too.

As the team had a 35-0 lead at halftime, it looks like Lanning’s speech must’ve worked for something.

Y’know, to be fair to Colorado, Lanning is basically doing the same thing Sanders is doing (with a filter that it’s the exact opposite approach) on ESPN cameras, but welcome to college football. As they say in wrestling, it’s all a work.

CFB fans had some strong reactions to Lanning's speech.
