Oregon QB Ty Thompson Enters Transfer Portal

Oregon quarterback Ty Thompson entered the transfer portal on Monday, according to ESPN’s Pete Thamel.

Thompson’s decision comes two days after former Oklahoma quarterback Dillon Gabriel committed to Oregon as a transfer Saturday. Thompson served as the backup to Heisman Trophy finalist Bo Nix.

Shortly after Gabriel committed to Oregon on Saturday, Thompson made a cryptic post on X (formerly Twitter) suggesting that he might be leaving the Ducks program. Now, with Thompson officially in the portal, he will seek to find his next team.

Thompson will be eligible to play immediately for his next team and has two seasons of eligibility remaining, per Thamel. The former five-star quarterback from Gilbert, Ariz., spent three seasons in Eugene but never earned the starting nod for the Ducks.

Oregon Ducks quarterback Ty Thompson, shown throwing a pass during his team’s game against the Stony Brook Seawolves on Sept. 18, 2021, has entered the transfer portal with two years of eligibility remaining.

In 17 total games, Thompson threw for 456 yards with six touchdown passes and four interceptions. Oregon (11–2) finished at No. 8 in the final College Football Playoff rankings after a loss to Washington in the Pac-12 championship game.
