Order! John Bercow makes cameo appearance in Fallout: London gaming mod

The fan-made mod for Fallout: London continues to get wackier: now it looks like former Speaker of the House of Commons, John Bercow, is set to make an appearance in the upcoming game.

Bercow is joining an illustrious line-up of voice acting talent for the upcoming Fallout 4 mod – including former Doctor Who actors Colin Baker and Sylvester McCoy, and Baldur’s Gate 3 voice actor Neil Newbon (who played Astarion).

"Imagine being Fallout: London and feeling so lucky having all the talented voice actors on the team. But then boosting it further with the fact that we have 2 Doctor Who actors as VAs... then Neil Newbon messages us and also wants a role," project lead Dan Carter wrote on the Fallout: London Discord channel, confirming the news.

"But the cherry on the top? Who better to represent our mods version of the Speaker of the House, than a Robot version. Voice by John Bercow himself."

What Bercow says, in fact, is “Be a good boy, young man. Be a good boy!” Plus, of course, his iconic catchphrase, “Order!” Would any Bercow appearance be complete without one.

The original Fallout games, made by Bethesda, are set in a post-apocalyptic version of America, where devastating nuclear blasts have changed the landscape beyond all recognition.

In those games, players step into the shoes of a revolving cast of characters as they attempt to navigate this landscape, which is populated by mutated Ghouls, monsters and sinister corporations.

The Fallout mod is a fan-made game set in the universe of Fallout 4, but which moves the action to a retrofuturist, devastasted London instead. In it, Baker and McCoy play a pair of mysterious scientists, while a trailer for the game, which was released earlier in the year, gave viewers a glimpsed of the bombed-out London skyline.

Bercow himself is a controversial figure in UK politicse held the job of house Speaker between 2009 and 2019; after retiring, he was accused of being a “serial bully”, which he strongly denies. He’s also gone onto appear on several reality TV shows, including the US version of the BBC show The Traitors.

And as for the mod itself? After several delays, it looks like the game is finally getting ready to launch, though when, the developers haven’t yet said. Watch this space.
