We’re all set for a massive week of earnings with with 52 companies of interest reporting. That’s the most in one week I can remember for a long time and is sure to have a big impact on where the market goes from here. This week, we have Tesla (TSLA), Amazon (AMZN), Meta Platforms (META), Microsoft (MSFT), Alphabet (GOOGL), Exxon Mobil (XOM), Visa (V), Merck (MRK) and Boeing (BA) all set to report.
Before a company reports earnings, implied volatility is usually high because the market is unsure about the outcome of the report. Speculators and hedgers create huge demand for the company’s options which increases the implied volatility, and therefore, the price of options.
