True Food Kitchen, the health-focused restaurant chain backed by Oprah Winfrey, has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection with approximately $42.1 million in funded debt, closing 12 restaurants as it seeks a buyer and additional financial support. The company said its remaining 34 locations across 14 states would continue operating during the restructuring.

The company and eight affiliated businesses filed for bankruptcy on 4 October 2026 in the US Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of Texas. Its restructuring plan includes a $20 million debtor-in-possession financing commitment from HumanCo TFK IV. An interim court order issued on 6 October authorised borrowing of up to $5 million, with access to the remaining $15 million subject to final approval and additional conditions.
