OPINION - ‘Thank the Windrush pioneers while you can’: The Leader podcast

Six people from the Windrush generation have shared their personal stories with ES magazine as part of a special project for the 75th anniversary of HMT Empire Windrush docking in Britain.

It’s a collaboration with the charity, Black Cultural Archives, as well as the art platform, Circa.

Tonight (Thursday 22nd June) at 8pm, videos of their interviews will be shown on the big screens at Piccadilly Circus to celebrate a truly remarkable group of Londoners.

In this episode, we hear clips of some of their remarkable stories.

In part two, we hear Lazare Sylvestre’s story of coming to the UK from St Lucia in 1958 as told to the Museum of London.

Plus, Patrick Vernon OBE, culture historian, social commentator and campaigner, explains why the anniversary is bittersweet, what still needs to be done in relation to the scandal, and his campaign to have the Windrush anchor turned into a memorial.
