OPINION - Lily Phillips, OnlyFans and the big lie that sex work is good for you

LILY PHILLIPS - (LILY PHILLIPS)

In January, Lily Phillips says, she will sleep with a thousand men in 24 hours for her OnlyFans site. I have seen the flyer: to apply you must send in a headshot and hold your photo ID close to your face. This reads like a parody of the physical contortions Lily herself makes for her cameras: she has just slept with 100 men in 24 hours, and what was close to her face is unrepeatable. It made her cry. Perhaps the tears were for the camera – Lily had a documentary made about the day– because grief is as marketable as sex. (I loved my Tiny Tears doll). I don’t know. I suspect she doesn’t either.

It’s a parody of something else too: what happened to Gisele Pelicot, who was drugged, apparently raped by 51 men at the behest of her husband, and, by insisting the trial take place in public, has become a modern Feminist heroine in France, and across the world. Pelicot is 72, and she perfectly understands what happened to her. Phillips is 23, and I don’t think she understands at all. It’s a truism that by the time women understand what sex really is men no longer want it from them. Pelicot has been named one of the most influential women in the world.
