It’s not often that I think about Sadiq Khan at 2am. But now it’s happening all the time, which feels alarming, like when you accidentally think about a family member while having sex.

Music chat, dating chat, trauma dumping, ‘I ate here the other day it was really good’, weird mutual friend lore, TV chat: ‘Mate you’ve got to watch it, it’s so good’, reminiscing about past nights out – all punctuated with the cracking of cans, jingling of keys and clicking of lighters. You know the deal. But now there’s been a new mandatory item added to the agenda as of late.
