"Yorkshire! Yorkshire! Yorkshire!" There's something perfect about seeing Opeth in God's Own Country on Yorkshire Day, the band's early sound undeniably influenced by the Peaceville Three. Speaking of whom, Paradise Lost are actually pulling main support duty for the day (and we hear tell that former My Dying Bride vocalist Aaron Stainthorpe has been spotted in the crowd too).
Not to be entirely outgunned, Opeth have enlisted fellow Swedes Katatonia to kick the event off. Set within the gorgeous confines of Halifax's Piece Hall, an 18th Century market hall that hosted both Korn and Limp Bizkit ahead of their jump to Download headliner status - though we won't hold our breath for Opeth doing the same - Katatonia look and sound magnificent, their majestic, melancholic prog metal stirring and epic to behold.
