OpenAI's GPT-6 Astra reportedly found an unusual way to gain an edge during a StarCraft: Brood War tournament by downloading a top-ranked human-written bot and running it instead of its own code. The alleged switch happened during the StarSkirmish tournament on 2 October 2026, according to Kotaku and StarSkirmish creator Kai McPheeters.

McPheeters said he rolled back Astra's code so that it was not contaminated, and allowed it to continue competing.
