Only Murders in the Building season six cast revealed as two Doctor Who legends join series

David Tennant is set to join the star-studded cast of the acclaimed Disney+ series Only Murders in the Building for its upcoming sixth season, which will notably be set in London for the first time.

The 55-year-old actor, celebrated for his roles as the 10th and 14th Doctor in Doctor Who, will appear alongside a host of new talent including Nicola Coughlan, Jim Broadbent, Richard Ayoade, Adrian Lukis, and Kathryn Hunter.

Also joining the cast is another Doctor Who alumna, Jodie Whittaker, who played the 13th Doctor between 2018 and 2022.

The casting news was officially announced by the show’s social media channels and Disney+, which shared the playful message: "keep calm and update the case file", accompanied by images of the new additions.

Tennant’s extensive career also includes memorable performances as Barty Crouch Jr in Harry Potter And The Goblet Of Fire, Detective Inspector Alec Hardy in Broadchurch, Crowley in Good Omens, and Lord Tony Baddingham in Rivals.

Other prominent new cast members include Derry Girls and Bridgerton star Nicola Coughlan, and veteran actor Jim Broadbent, known for films such as Moulin Rouge, Bridget Jones’s Diary, and the Paddington series.

Richard Ayoade, who rose to fame in The IT Crowd, Adrian Lukis from The Bill, and Kathryn Hunter, who has appeared in Harry Potter films and the Star Wars series Andor, also join the ensemble.

Only Murders In The Building follows a crime-solving trio – played by Steve Martin, Martin Short, and Selena Gomez – who host a popular podcast investigating murders within their upscale New York City apartment building. The series has garnered significant critical acclaim, receiving 49 Emmy nominations and winning seven across its previous five seasons.

The upcoming season, comprising 10 episodes, will also feature Jamie Demetriou, Jane Horrocks, Anjana Vasan, Derek Jacobi, and Lesley Nicol. Last week, it was confirmed that Spice Girl Geri Halliwell-Horner and Emmy-winning actor Martin Freeman had also signed on.

The show is renowned for attracting high-profile guest stars, with previous seasons featuring Oscar winners Meryl Streep and Da’Vine Joy Randolph, alongside Richard Kind, Nathan Lane, Paul Rudd, Shirley MacLaine, Tina Fey, and Renee Zellweger. Season six will stream internationally on Disney+.
