Online white goods retailer AO cuts Salford office space by 80%

AO has cut its office space in Salford by 80%, it has been confirmed.

The Bolton-headquartered online white goods retailer has downsized from 31,000 sq ft at Bruntwood Works’ Baskerville House to 6,000 sq ft.

The company, which is listed on the London Stock Exchange, has had an office at Baskerville House since signing an 11-year lease in 2017.

Baskerville House is one of four buildings at Riverside’s campus-like cluster - which also includes Delphian, Cloister and Aldine.

Andrew Butterworth, commercial director at Bruntwood, said: "AO remains one of our long-standing customers, and we are supporting them as they change their footprint to consolidate space, while retaining a presence in Manchester city centre.

"This stems from our commitment to creating thriving cities and providing businesses with flexible solutions to access high-quality workspaces.

"There’s strong demand for city centre locations, and we’ve had considerable interest in Baskerville House at Riverside, as a well-connected space with good amenities, such as a private courtyard, on-site parking, access to FORM personal training and an on-site retail offering."

The news comes after AO upped it annual earnings outlook for the third time in just over three months after it said its cost-cutting efforts were paying off.

The business said its profitability has seen a better-than-expected improvement as it drives cost savings thanks to a "resilient" customer base.

AO added aid price increases across mobiles have also been slightly higher than forecast.

It expects underlying earnings to be in the range of £37.5m to £45m for the full year, up from the £30m to £40m guided for last month.

The group had already increased earnings guidance in November and again in January as its turnaround plan to strip out costs has been bearing fruit.
