WASHINGTON — Fired-up GOP donors gave $559 million to Republican candidates and causes at the federal, state and local level in 2021 using the GOP’s online platform WinRed, signaling sustained high interest from key small-dollar donors ahead of the midterm elections.
The cash surge included $158 million given in the fourth quarter, when the average donation was a little more than $37. First-time donors gave $209.3 million to campaigns in 2021, WinRed said, crediting early investments in online fundraising by GOP candidates for the surge.
“We’re putting Republicans at a competitive advantage,” said Gerrit Lansing, Winred’s president. “We’re leaving no stone unturned to ensure a successful midterm election for the GOP.”
