One to watch: Lambrini Girls

Lambrini Girls – the Brighton-based duo of vocalist-guitarist Phoebe Lunny and bassist Lilly Macieira – are far from the first punk band to aim their ire at class disparity, misogyny, racism and the police, but they’re likely the most streamlined and sparky to emerge since forthcoming tourmates Idles. Like a female response to the Bristolians’ incendiary debut, Brutalism, Lambrini Girls’ imminent LP, Who Let the Dogs Out, charges into the ring with its MO set to “furious”. On lead single Company Culture, they snarl down workplace harassment with withering one-liners (“Michael, I don’t want to suck you off on my lunch break”), while Filthy Rich Nepo Baby hardly needs explanation.

Lining up a conveyor belt of targets to systematically bulldoze, Lambrini Girls are not ones to sugarcoat their words. It’s an approach that has already landed them in the crosshairs of certain internet recesses after a 2023 interview with Kerrang! led with a quote from Lunny declaring: “I will scrap any Terf, any day, in person.” The pair also walk the walk. Earlier this year they were among a cohort of bands to withdraw from the Great Escape festival due to its association with Barclays, which is linked to Israeli defence companies (the bank has since suspended sponsorship of the festival). Lambrini Girls’ consideration for societal niceties might be on holiday, but Who Let the Dogs Out is more than ready to get the job done.
