One person has been taken to hospital after a crash on the A19 which saw major delays while the road was closed southbound for around two hours.
Police and the ambulance service responded just after midday on Thursday after three vehicles crashed at the slip road with the A690, with traffic left queueing for miles.
And the North East Ambulance Service (NEAS) has now confirmed one person is now in hospital receiving further treatment after the collision.
"We received a call at 12.21pm today to reports of a road traffic incident on the A19 southbound slip road with the A690,” said an NEAS spokeswoman.
“We dispatched one ambulance crew and received support from our colleagues at St John Ambulance. One patient was taken to the Sunderland Royal Hospital for further treatment."
The southbound carriageway from the A183 to the A690 was closed until approximately 2.15pm.
