VISAKHAPATNAM: The Waltair Division of East Coast Railway in association with Etikoppaka Lacquer and Wooden Toys Manufactures Mutually Aided Co-operative Society Limited launched the 'One Station One Product' kiosk at Visakhapatnam railway station in Andhra Pradesh on Friday.
It was inaugurated by divisional railway manager Anup Satpathy.
Visakhapatnam is the first station in the East Coast Railway to implement the 'One Station One Product' concept that was announced by the central government in the recent budget. The main objective of the concept is to make each railway station a promotional hub and showcase destination for a local product, thereby giving a major boost to local industries.
Etikoppaka wooden products are made with Ankudi Karra (Wrightia tinctoria) and coated with Lacquer color by hundreds of local artisans of the Etikoppaka village in Yelamanchili mandal of Visakhapatnam District.
Speaking on the occasion, DRM Anup Satpathy said that the railway station will act as a marketing hub for the promotion and upliftment of local products. As per the Railway Board's advice, one station on each zonal railway will be identified for the implementation of the concept, initially as a pilot project for a period of 15 days.
Visakhapatnam railway station was identified in the entire East Coast Railway zone for implementation. After the successful completion of this pilot project, policy formulation will be done for further implementation of this concept.
He opined that this scheme would be successful and definitely benefit the local artisans.
