One police officer dead, another critical in Chicago hospital shooting

  • A police officer has died and another is in critical condition following a shooting at a Chicago hospital.
  • The incident occurred at Endeavor Health Swedish Hospital in Chicago about 10.50am on Saturday.
  • The suspect, who has not been publicly identified, is currently in police custody.
  • The officers were transporting an individual for observation when the suspect fired shots, subsequently exiting the hospital before being apprehended.
  • Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson described the event as a “tragedy” and confirmed mental health support services are being provided to police officers.
