One person taken to hospital following horror two-vehicle collision on A1 in County Durham

One person was taken to hospital following a horror two-vehicle collision on the A1 in County Durham.

Emergency crews attended the scene on the the A1M northbound between Carrville and Chester-le-Street following reports of a crash shortly after 12.40pm today (October 25).

One person was found to have sustained injuries as a result of the collision and was taken to hospital for further treatment.

The A1M northbound between junctions J62 and J63 was closed while emergency crews remained at the scene.

The closure led to some disruption on the roads in the vicinity with delays of up to 50 minutes reported on the A1 northbound by Traffic England.

A spokesperson for Durham Constabulary said: "Police were called shortly after 12.40pm today to a two-vehicle collision on the A1(M) northbound between Carrville and Chester-le-Street.

"One person is believed to have sustained injuries as a result of the collision and has been taken to hospital."

A spokesperson for North East Ambulance Service added: "We were called at 12:42 to a two vehicle collision on the A1 northbound between the junctions for Durham and Chester-le-Street.

"We dispatched a double crewed ambulance, a rapid response paramedic and a clinical team leader. One patient was taken to the Royal Victoria Infirmary."

The A1 Northbound between junctions J62 and J63 reopened at approximately 14.50pm.
