Joe Gomez has signed a new contract at Liverpool, keeping him at Anfield until 2027, and the Reds faithful think it is great news for the future of the club's defence.
After having his game time limited last season due to the return to fitness of Virgil van Dijk and the form shown by Joel Matip and Ibrahima Konate, Gomez was attracting interest from Premier League teams as he goes in search of a place in England's World Cup squad.
With two years remaining on his deal, Liverpool knew they had to secure the future of one of their stars and that is exactly what new sporting director Julian Ward has been able to do going into the 2021-22 season.

Liverpool fans took to Twitter to celebrate the news of Gomez's new contract at Anfield with one supporter praising the work of Ward as vital for the future of the club.
"Joe Gomez and Konate are the future. So important that the club convinced and reassured him that he is important. Massive news!!!"
Another supporter expressed their delight at Gomez's contract news and insisted he 'deserves' it: "Joe Gomez absolutely deserves this and I’m really happy that he still sees his future here, he can become one of the best man I still believe it."
A Liverpool fan touched on the incredible depth the Reds have in the centre back positions with Van Dijk, Konate, Gomez and Matip all to choose from.
"With Joe Gomez signing a new long-term contract, Liverpool still have the centre back options in the league. We're going to need the depth this year because of the packed schedule ahead of the world cup!"
