One of Swansea's best known and favourite breakfast cafes - Uplands Diner - has been put up for sale

One of the best known breakfast cafes in Swansea has been put up for sale as its owner of three decades has decided to take a step back due to his health.

Uplands Diner has been around for 30 years and is something of a city institution, famous for its signature dish - the Mega Beast, consisting of 10 rashers of bacon, eight sausages, five eggs, chips, two hash browns, bubble and squeak, mushrooms, tomatoes, beans, two slices of black pudding, four slices of toast, four slices of bread and butter, and four slices of fried bread.

Back in January, we reported how a decision was made by owner Lance Pardoe to turn the business into a takeaway only set-up, a decision he took to focus on his health after he revealed how he had tragically lost two brothers within the space of three months. But now the famous cafe has been placed up for sale for £299,995, with Hilton Smythe, which is handling the sale, writing on its advertisement: "The business is now being sold, albeit reluctantly and with a heavy heart only due to the vendor's wish to enjoy a well-earned retirement. He is keen to see his beloved food delivery service passed to an ambitious and entrepreneurial new owner(s) who can take this already thriving business to the next level."

Mr Pardoe told WalesOnline that, despite the move to takeaway only, demand had remained just as high as ever, something which had caused him some difficulty due to his health.

He said: "I came to the decision (to sell) a couple of weeks ago. At the moment, it is just an idea testing the water. I have some issues with my health - I have bad blood circulation and cellulitis in both of my legs - and if I don't change anything I'm going to have problems. I can't carry on the way I'm going, I am still having to work at least five days and it is constantly piling pressure on my legs. I have had to make a decision, and it is not an easy one after 30 years.

"We decided to change to a takeaway only business but demand has remained. I want someone to come forward and keep the business running as it is. We have 19 staff working for us, a mixture of chefs, packers, kitchen staff and self-employed drivers, and it is a condition of the sale that their jobs are retained."
