One of Nottingham's most royal streets will fail miserably to celebrate the Queen's Platinum Jubilee, its residents have said. Jubilee Road in Daybrook, will not be holding a street party over the bank holiday weekend, which started on Thursday, June 2.
The road was given its name after the Silver Jubilee of King George V, according to residents. However, Alyson Alton said she and others won't be able to do its royal legacy justice.
"We can't do one (a street party) because of the fire station," she told Nottinghamshire Live. "We'll need to go to the park on Saturday. We will fail miserably as far as the street is concerned. We've never been able to have street parties and I've lived here a long while."

Mrs Alton said she and her husband will instead go to Arnot Hill Park on Saturday, June 4, for the Jubilee Fair organised by Gedling Borough Council. "The park always does something good," she continued.
"We're quite elderly down here as well, there's not many children. We've got family coming round on Saturday evening so we'll probably have some drinks and watch some TV, it depends on the weather." Lisa Walters, a 51-year-old cat groomer who also lives on the road, added: "I'm not really doing much, I'm just glad to have the time off. I've got bunting to put up."
Leader of Gedling Borough Council, Councillor John Clarke MBE, said: “This will be the first time we have been able to arrange larger events since the pandemic and we look forward to welcoming residents to the events being held across the borough. We are very proud of our monarch and the tireless work she has done for this country for the last 70 years and we look forward to celebrating this historic milestone with the people of Gedling."
