The Broncos hired Sean Payton to help lead the team out of the disaster that was the 2022 season. However far Payton can take Denver this year, he’s already raised the bar when it comes to his sneaker collection with a first-of-its-kind Jordan Brand sponsorship.
Payton is the first NFL coach to sign with Jordan Brand, and he’s certainly not shy about flaunting his footwear around the team facilities.
“[Payton] brags about it a little bit, [saying] ‘You haven’t seen these in stores yet,’” cornerback Patrick Surtain II said, per Ryan McFadden of The Denver Post. “Every day he’s showing off new shoes.”
Payton said his relationship with Jordan started in 2020 when the basketball icon reached out to him after noticing Payton routinely wearing his shoes on the sidelines. He invited Payton to visit his private golf course in Florida, and the pair agreed on a sponsorship shortly after.
Payton told The Post that he has hundreds of pairs of Jordans, with the Jordan 11s being his favorite. McFadden reported that the coach will wear an exclusive, Broncos-colored pair during games this season that will not be available to the public.
As Payton’s debut with his new team approaches, he’s relishing the opportunity to impress his new players with his sneaker game.
“These guys pay attention to all that stuff,” Payton said. “When a new pair comes [out], they will be looking at me, and I’ll be like, ‘These are not for everybody. You gotta be in the club to get these.’”
