Around 25% of men in the UK wear underpants from Marks & Spencer, according to a new documentary. The claim was made on Channel 5's Inside M&S which aired this evening (Friday, July 1).
As the name suggests, the documentary explores the British high street giant, Marks & Spencer’s history and how it has built the reputation it has today. The programme states impressive stats, including the shopping giant having over 1,000 stores in the UK, 70,000 employees, and a turnover of £9billion.
But what many people may not know is that M&S dominates the underwear market. The show's narrator put its popularity down to the quality of their underwear.

Some surprising statistics mentioned in the documentary include that the high street giant makes two pairs of knickers, every second and that one in four men wear M&S boxers. On top of this, one-third of all bras made in Britain are from Marks and Spencers.
The show also showed footage of a long-term M&S customer, of nearly 30 years, who shared why she’s a fan of shopping for underwear at the store. She said: ‘’They’re completely comfortable without compromising style’’. She added: ‘’It makes older women feel special’’.
The narrator of the programme also noted that ‘’M&S is way ahead of its rivals… thanks to sizing’’. They then went on to detail the history of how the company compromised accurate sizing from its early days and this has seemingly continued throughout the years.
