One house, no neighbours: Wales’ abandoned village was demolished over landslide fears, but one lonely cottage has just found a new owner

A solitary cottage standing in the middle of an abandoned Welsh village has captured widespread attention after selling at auction, despite being surrounded by the empty footprint of a community that disappeared decades ago. The three-bedroom house, located in the former mining village of Troedrhiwfwch in South Wales, was initially listed with a guide price of £1 (around AUD $2) before eventually selling for £49,050 (around AUD $94,000) following fierce bidding. More than 230 bids were placed as buyers were drawn not just by the property itself, but by the extraordinary story behind it, according to Wales Online .
