One Direction fans beg Madame Tussauds to let them keep wax body parts

One Direction fans have pleaded Madame Tussauds to allow them to keep their wax body parts after the attraction announced it was retiring the exhibit.

Madame Tussauds, in Baker Street, kept the figures of Harry Styles, Zayn Malik, Liam Payne, Louis Tomlinson and Niall Horan together even after the real life singers decided to pursue solo careers six years ago.

With the figures being retired, the London attraction has been bombarded with messages begging staff to hand them over.

Fans pleaded for specific individual body parts including lips, limbs and little fingers of Harry, Liam, Zayn, Louis, and Niall.

Generous fans offered to pay delivery costs to have the One Direction boys placed in their bedroom. Among the bizarre requests, one offered to charter a private jet to Australia.

General manager Tim Waters said: “Six years on from going their separate ways, the number of requests we’ve received from One Direction fans offering to take ownership of all, or part of, our One Direction figures now they’ve been retired shows what an impact they’ve made on their fans.

“One superfan even said they’d be willing to hire a private jet from Sydney to fly the figures out to them!”

Taking to Twitter, one fan wrote: “Just found out that One Direction are no longer in Madame Tussauds and I am devastated. literally in mourning over the fact I’ll never get to have a photo with the fake boys.”

Another asked: “If Madame Tussauds are gonna scrap the one direction wax statues then can i have them? I’ll settle for only Harry if I need to.”

One existential fan wrote: “This year get’s worse and worse.”

The band’s waxworks were first unveiled in 2013 and the group posed for a photoshoot with their lookalikes.

Their sculptures were made by twenty craftsmen who worked on the statues over two months.

Principal sculptor Stephen Mansfield said they worked around the “boys’ crazy schedule” to ensure they were perfect.

After Zayn Malik decided to leave the band in 2015, Madame Tussauds employed a Tissue Assistant to stand by the group’s waxworks.

Emotional: Madame Tussauds says it has seen a spike in crying visitors to Zayn's waxwork (PA)

The company revealed there was a spike in fans overcome by emotion at the sight of Malik standing alongside the group’s other members.

He added: “One Direction’s figures have been an important part of Madame Tussauds London for nine years and whilst we know some fans will be sad to no longer be able to visit the band’s figures, the time has come to bid them a fond farewell.”
