One arrested in Sri Lanka for alleged attempts at match-fixing

NEW DELHI: Tamim Rahman, a British citizen of Bangladeshi origin and owner of the Lanka Premier League (LPL) franchise Dambulla Thunders, was arrested on Wednesday on suspicion of involvement in match-fixing.

The arrest was confirmed by an official from the Special Investigation Unit for the Prevention of Offenses Relating to Sports at the Sports Ministry. Rahman, who was remanded to custody until May 31 by the Colombo Magistrate's Court, had his franchise bought by Imperial Sports Group, led by Bangladeshi entrepreneurs, in April.
