The forecast for one Texas TV station is cloudy with a chance of feuding.
An on-air spat between anchor Carney Porter and chief meteorologist Michael Bohling at KFDX sparked a social media storm, prompting the Wichita Falls broadcasters to — once again — clarify that there is no bad blood between them.
In the viral clip from Wednesday’s 10 p.m. newscast, the pair traded tense remarks during a handoff to the weather segment, when Porter insisted there was no rain in the forecast just after Bohling had predicted it.
“Did you say that we don’t have any rain in the forecast?” Bohling asked “... I just said a second ago that we have rain in the forecast.”
The two clashed over the timing of the forecast before Porter told him, “Stop trying to correct people and just do your job.”
“I just don’t know why you don’t listen to me,” Bohling quipped.
“Cause you’re boring,” Porter shot back.
“Oh, wow. Wow, okay, anyways...” Bohling said, proceeding with the forecast.
The next day, both broadcasters cleared the air on social media after the clip went viral.
“Ok, so I’m going to address this one more time, for folks that still aren’t sure. The video going around is just how we mess with each other. We tend to lose track of the fact that we’re on tv at 10pm (we’re tired just like you), and sometimes we go over the top lol,” Bohling said on Facebook, along with a playful photo of them squaring off with boxing gloves in the studio.
“Carney and I love each other like family. I promise you that. Any time you hear us bicker, we are just messing with each other. Because at the end of the day, we always have each other’s backs,” he continued.
Hours later, Porter returned to Facebook with a detailed post explaining her side of the story.
“I know it seems like Michael and I give each other a hard time, but please understand that it is always and only in good fun,” she wrote.
“We are actually close friends and we love to be sarcastic with each other and sometimes those instances can come off sounding a bit more serious than it actually is, especially for those who don’t know the dynamics of our friendship off the air,” Porter continued.
“But that being said, I would NEVER intentionally be mean or hurtful to Michael or anyone in our newsroom, whether it be on or off the air. We are all really close and I’m lucky that we are all such great friends. For those who found the moment uncomfortable, I sincerely apologize.”
