Omochere can't wait to work under Celtic legend, as his departure from Bohemians is confirmed

Promise Omochere says he can’t wait to play under Celtic legend Scott Brown at new club Fleetwood Town.

Omochere has completed his move from Bohemians to the League One side on a three-year deal.

The fee is believed to be in the high five figures, while there are some potentially lucrative add-on clauses that could generate additional revenue for the League of Ireland side should he succeed across the water.

Fleetwood appointed Brown to his first managerial role in May - after he served briefly on the Aberdeen coaching staff.

And Omochere said: “I grew up watching him play for Celtic as I know he’s a legend over there, and for him to be my manager now, it’s exciting and hopefully I can learn a lot from him during my time here.

“I am a forward who can play up top or play on the wings, with my preferred position being up front scoring the goals.

“I am a powerful forward with pace and I hope I can bring something different to this side and score goals and help the team.

“There’s plenty of competition in this squad and that’s healthy for us all. We will all be pushing each other and ultimately that’s going to help the team give 100 percent.”

Omochere joined Bohs in 2018 and settled quickly in the Under-19 side, helping them win the Under-19 League of Ireland that year.

The former St Joseph’s Boys and UCD ace also featured against Midtjylland in the UEFA Youth League.

His first-team debut came in September 2018 in a 3-1 win away to St Patrick’s Athletic, however his progress was halted in 2019 and 2020 by injury.

Omochere leaves Dalymount Park with a record of 11 goals in 54 first-team appearances.

He added: “It’s a great feeling to have signed for the club. The move has been on the table for a few days now and I am just happy now it’s over the line and can’t wait to meet the lads.

“With the move, I was away with Bohemians in Germany for pre-season and we played against Union Berlin who play in the Bundesliga.

“After the game my agent messaged me saying Fleetwood are interested and from there, things moved quickly and got more serious.

“It has been a mad three days with going home, coming over here to meet the club and things then happened really quickly.

“There has been a lot of feelings and emotions over the last few days, but this move really excites me.”

Omochere admitted it was a wrench leaving Dalymount Park.

“It is sad leaving my old team, Bohemians, as I was there for five-years, so it’s going to be a good challenge,” he said.

“Moving away was something I was looking to do to make my next step in football and now I am going to be living alone for the first time and it’s a challenge I am ready for.

“I am intrigued to see what happens and just excited to hit the ground running with the season only a week away now.”

Omochere isn't the only young star to leave these shores this summer. He joins Eric Yoro (UCD - Bolton), Eoin Toal (Derry City - Bolton), Alex Murphy (Galway United - Newcastle), Darragh Burns (St Patrick's Athletic - MK Dons), Dawson Devoy (Bohemians - MK Dons), Liam Kerrigan (UCD - Como) and Danny Mandroiu (Shamrock Rovers - Lincoln).
