PSNI has issued an update on their attempted murder investigation into the shooting of Detective Chief Inspector John Caldwell. Yesterday evening (Thursday, March 2) PSNI confirmed one of the men arrested has been released following questioning.
DCI Caldwell remains in a critical condition after he was shot multiple times, in front of his son, at the Youth Sports complex on Killyclogher Road, Omagh, on Wednesday February 22 at around 8pm.
Earlier this week, officers released CCTV footage of the car used by the gunmen. It showed a blue Ford Fiesta, registration number MGZ 6242 which was fitted with false plates, FRZ 8414, prior to the attack. The CCTV footage shows the car leaving the sports complex after the shooting.

Police have also revisited the scene where they have been handing out appeal leaflets, speaking with pedestrians, drivers and passengers and carried out house-to-house enquiries.
On Wednesday (March 1) a 71-year-old man, arrested in connection with the investigation was released following questioning and yesterday (March 2) a 47-year-old man was also released following police questioning. Two men remain in police custody being questioned in connection with the investigation.
Yesterday evening PSNI issued the following statement: "A 47-year-old man, arrested in connection with the investigation into the attempted murder of Detective Chief Inspector John Caldwell on 22nd February in the Killyclogher Road area of Omagh, has been released following questioning.
"Two men, aged 33 and 57, remain in police custody at this time.
"Major Investigation Team detectives continue to ask for the public’s help and would appeal to witnesses or those with information to get in touch by calling 101.
"Detectives are also highlighting a reward of up to £20,000 from Crimestoppers, who are a charity and independent of the police. The reward is offered for information given directly to Crimestoppers that leads to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for John’s attempted murder.
