South Africa's Tatjana Smith wins swimming gold at Paris Olympics

Tatjana Smith took South Africa's first gold of the Paris Olympics on Monday and added the 100 metres breaststroke title to the 200 metres she won at Tokyo in 2021 under her maiden name of Schoenmaker. For more, we speak to sports journalist Mbulelo Thinta.

Also in South Africa, the African National Congress expels former party and country president Jacob Zuma from the party after he challenged them in May's elections with his own uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) party. Zuma's supporters have denounced his expulsion, accusing the ANC disciplinary committee of behaving like a kangaroo court. 

Finally, in Uganda, 36 opposition party members are charged with terrorism after they were deported from neighbouring Kenya. Lawyers for the members of the Forum for Democratic Change party have denounced the judicial process as a witch hunt.
