Australia have made a glittering start to the Paris Olympics as they top the medal table after the first day of action, with more potentially to come on day two. Jessica Fox will be going for gold in the women’s kayak single, while Emma McKeon, Ariarne Titmus and Mollie O’Callaghan will be among the swimmers chasing at least a podium finish.
The Matildas will be looking to bounce back from a disappointing defeat in their Olympics Games opener, while the Hockeyroos start their campaign in the women’s hockey.
The bad news: Rain continues to fall on Paris. Today’s Olympics triathlon swimming training session has been cancelled after rain affected pollution levels in the Seine.
“Tests carried out in the Seine yesterday revealed water quality levels that in the view of the international federation, World Triathlon, did not provide sufficient guarantees to allow the event to be held,” said a Paris 2024 spokesperson.
The good news: The forecast is for sunshine and higher temperatures over the next 48 hours, so organisers are “confident” water quality will improve before the triathlon events begin on Tuesday with the men’s race.
