Upon their return home as Olympic champions, Ireland’s men’s lightweight double sculls winners, Fintan McCarthy and Paul O’Donovan, opted for a humble mode of transportation. Instead of a lavish ride, the duo planned to take a bus from Dublin Airport to Cork, a journey spanning approximately 160 miles.
However, a kind gesture from a fellow passenger changed their travel plans. A fan named Ciaran, who had been on the same flight from Paris, offered McCarthy and O’Donovan a ride in his car. Despite the rowers having multiple bags in tow, they accepted the generous offer.
McCarthy expressed his gratitude by commenting on Dublin Airport’s Instagram post, acknowledging Ciaran's act of kindness with the words, “Ciaran coming in clutch.”
Both McCarthy and O’Donovan hail from Skibbereen in County Cork, showcasing their down-to-earth nature despite their remarkable sporting achievement.
