Olivier Giroud's hilarious response to Jackson Irvine after 'pretending he never spoke English'

Olivier Giroud has responded to World Cup star Jason Cummings via a tweet to Australian teammate Jackson Irvine after Cummings claimed the France ace "pretended he couldn't speak English".

Giroud, who became France's all-time top scorer at the tournament in Qatar, was accused of ignoring Cummings when asked if he could swap shirts after the group game between the two nations. France won the match 4-1 although the Aussies would go on to qualify for the last 16 alongside the French.

But what happened after the game left Scottish-born Cummings upset, particularly given Kylian Mbappe had snubbed him as well.

Speaking to Channel 10 show The Project, Cummings said: "After the France game, I actually tried to get [Kylian] Mbappe. I went for the top boy Mbappe – and he told me to meet him in the changing rooms. So I went to the changing room and the kit man was there and I gave him my top and 10 minutes later he came out with my jersey and says 'Nah, absolutely not, (Mbappe) doesn't want to swap'.

"So when I was walking back to my changing room and I've seen [Olivier] Giroud as handsome as ever, and I asked him, 'Giroud, please man, can I get your shirt, man? I'm a big fan, can I get your shirt?' And he just walked past me, pretended he never spoke English! And he's been in the Premier League for 10 years! He just walked right past me!"

Cummings did eventually get the shirt of Jules Kounde, but it turns out Giroud could not give him his shirt anyway. Because he had offered it to someone else.

After hearing of the story from Cummings, Giroud took to social media and sent a brilliant response to the forward by messaging his teammate Jackson Irvine.

The tweet shows a photo of Irvine's shirt - which Giroud must have swapped for his own after the match - and the caption: "Hi @jacksonirvine_ how is my English mate?" The caption was followed by three laughing emojis, a love heart emoji, a France flag emoji, an Australian flag emoji, a love heart and a fist emoji.

At least the former Arsenal and Chelsea man took it in good spirit.
