Olivier Giroud calls out Jason Cummings after France shirt swap claim as striker's World Cup takes bizarre twist

Jason Cummings was in the Dundee doldrums at the start of this year – and he looks set to end it with a feud involving France's all-time leading goalscorer Olivier Giroud.

The former Hibs and Rangers striker capped off a memorable year after moving to the A-League with Central Coast Mariners by featuring at the World Cup in Qatar for Australia. He came up against eventual runners-up France in the group stage and claimed that AC Milan star Giroud snubbed his request to swap shirts as he didn't speak English - despite a lengthy career in the Premier League.

But in a veiled Twitter post, the 36-year-old displayed Ross County hero Jackson Irvine's shirt from the match with the caption 'Hi Jackson Irvine, how's my English mate?' in a nod seemingly towards Cummings' comments. He said of the incident: “So when I was walking back to my changing room and I’ve seen Giroud and I’m walking, as handsome as ever.

"I asked him, ‘Giroud, please man, can I get your shirt man? I’m a big fan, can I get your shirt?’ And he just walked past me.

"He pretended he never spoke English and he’s been in the Premier League for 10 years! (laughing). He just walked right past me!"

Cummings seems to have put it behind him though, scoring twice in three A-League matches since his return from Socceroos duty.
