Oleksandr Usyk to defend world heavyweight titles against Daniel Dubois in Poland after purse bids

Oleksandr Usyk’s team have won the purse bids for the Ukrainian’s mandatory defence of his world heavyweight titles against Daniel Dubois, it has been announced.

Usyk has not fought since retaining his WBA, IBF and WBO crowns against Anthony Joshua in Saudi Arabia last year after talks over a unification bout with Tyson Fury broke down.

Dubois, who has recovered from a loss to Joe Joyce in 2020, overcame Kevin Lerena in December and is the WBA’s mandatory challenger.

Amid suggestions Usyk, Joshua, Fury and Deontay Wilder are set for a money-spinning tournament in the Middle East this winter, it is the Ukrainian heavyweight who has the first confirmed fight this summer.

Promoter, Alex Krassyuk has confirmed his team had won the purse bids and will now plan for a fight in Wroclaw, Poland on August 12th.

A statement from Queensberry Promotions read: “We are fully behind Daniel Dubois in his unified world heavyweight title fight against Oleksandr Usyk.”
