A former Nottingham veterinary hospital is being sold off as the city council continues to try and make savings by disposing of some of its assets. The former PDSA Midland Area Hospital on Dunkirk Road is currently owned by Nottingham City Council and leased out.
But in a delegated decision published on February 28, the authority says it now regards the building as being "surplus" to its requirements. The council said: "The leaseholder has approached the city council with a view to purchasing the council's freehold interest.
"Accordingly, suitable terms have been negotiated with the leaseholder. The freehold sale will provide increased security for the tenants therefore encouraging their investment into the property."

It is not clear who owns the current lease, but PDSA vacated the Dunkirk site last October and has since moved to Radford Road. A PDSA spokesperson said: "Our Nottingham team spent many years at our former site on Dunkirk Road before moving to our new Nottingham PDSA Pet Wellbeing Centre, The Marian and Christina Ionescu Hospital, on Radford Road last year.
"We can confirm we sold the residue of a long leasehold interest in the former hospital and have no further involvement or interest in this site." Last year saw the release of an updated 'Together for Nottingham Plan', which seeks to address Nottingham City Council's financial challenges, and one of the key updates was around the assets owned by the authority.
The council said that by the end of 2023, it will aim to have reviewed 550 of its assets in total to decide whether or not they should be sold off. The decision on the sale of the former PDSA building will come into effect on March 8 if the Government does not 'call-in' the plans.
