Old Dominion Freight Line Stock Outlook: Is Wall Street Bullish or Bearish?

With a market cap of $43.7 billion, Old Dominion Freight Line, Inc. (ODFL) is one of the largest North American LTL motor carriers, providing regional, inter-regional, and national LTL services through an extensive, union-free network across the continental United States. In addition to its core LTL services, the company offers expedited transportation, container drayage, truckload brokerage, and supply chain consulting through strategic alliances and an integrated service network.

Shares of the trucking firm have outpaced the broader market over the past 52 weeks. ODFL stock has gained 39.8% over this time frame, while the broader S&P 500 Index ($SPX) has rallied 20.5%. Moreover, shares of the company have surged 34.8% on a YTD basis, compared to SPX’s 13.6% rise.

Focusing more closely, shares of the Thomasville, North Carolina-based company have outperformed the State Street Industrial Select Sector SPDR ETF’s (XLI) 24.2% return over the past 52 weeks.

Old Dominion Freight Line reported Q2 2026 results on Jul. 29, with revenue up 10.4% to $1.55 billion, operating income up 30% to $465.3 million, and EPS up 32.3% to a record-matching $1.68. Profitability was a major positive, with the operating ratio improving 450 basis points to 70.1%, while LTL revenue per hundredweight increased 15.2% and revenue per hundredweight excluding fuel surcharges rose 5.5%, more than offsetting a 4.1% decline in LTL tons per day.

For the fiscal year ending in December 2026, analysts expect Old Dominion Freight Line’s EPS to grow 19.4% year-over-year to $5.78. The company's earnings surprise history is promising. It topped the consensus estimates in each of the last four quarters.

Among the 24 analysts covering the stock, the consensus rating is a “Moderate Buy.” That’s based on nine “Strong Buy” ratings, one “Moderate Buy,” 12 “Holds,” and two “Strong Sells.”

This configuration is more bullish than three months ago, with seven “Strong Buy” ratings on the stock.

On Jul. 30, Goldman Sachs’ Jordan Alliger raised ODFL’s price target to $244 and maintained a “Buy” rating.

The mean price target of $237.17 represents a nearly 12% premium to ODFL’s current price levels. The Street-high price target of $280 suggests a 32.2% potential upside.
