Things aren’t looking good for the Spartans in the battle for five-star defensive lineman David Stone.
Stone is set to make his college commitment on Saturday, and it appears he will be choosing Oklahoma over Michigan State, Miami (FL) and others. Stone is currently projected by multiple 247Sports’ recruiting insiders to land at Oklahoma, including Michigan State insider Justin Thind who updated his crystal ball projection to the Sooners this week.
Stone ranks as the No. 2 defensive lineman and No. 6 overall prospect in 247Sports’ composite rankings for the 2024 class. He holds offers from more than 30 schools.
Michigan State was once the favorite to land Stone but staff turnover — specifically to the defensive line — appears to have hurt the Spartans’ chances at landing this generational talent. We will know the final outcome this weekend, but Michigan State fans should begin to lower their expectations on the chances of him ending up in green-and-white.
