Japanese police have arrested a 20-year-old US Marine on suspicion of killing and robbing a 39-year-old woman in Okinawa, in a case that has reignited tensions over the American military presence on the island and prompted a formal protest from Tokyo.

Lance Cpl Devin Jacob Ballard was arrested early on Sunday, 4 October, on suspicion of killing and robbing 39-year-old Anna Yagi.
