An Ohio woman, aged 77, has been arrested and charged with reckless homicide after allegedly shooting and killing a 58-year-old man in Cincinnati. The incident occurred on Sunday evening at an apartment on East Tower Drive.
According to Cincinnati Police, the woman, identified as Kathleen Geiger, shot Arthur Osborne once in the pelvic region, causing his death. Geiger claimed that she and Osborne were engaged in what she described as 'harmless banter,' during which Osborne jokingly requested to be shot. Believing her firearm was unloaded, Geiger pointed the gun at Osborne and pulled the trigger, resulting in Osborne being shot in the groin area.
Prosecutors emphasized that the belief of the gun being unloaded was not a valid excuse for the tragic outcome. They stressed the importance of responsible firearm handling, stating that pointing a firearm at someone and pulling the trigger should only be done with the intent to destroy the target.
Following the shooting, Geiger provided medical aid to Osborne and called 911. She was subsequently taken into custody, with her bond set at $10,000. The case will be presented to a grand jury for possible indictment, and Geiger's next court appearance is scheduled for October 31.
This incident serves as a reminder of the critical importance of gun safety and responsible firearm ownership. Authorities urge individuals who possess firearms to handle them with utmost care and caution to prevent tragic accidents like this from occurring.
